It's so encouraging to see the growing ranks of bikers on New York streets. Every year I see more and more enjoying the same benefits you're writing about -- exercise, saving money and enhancing interaction with the city. Why cram into an underground train when so much of the city is accessible by bike? I ride between Chinatown and midtown daily and have found it's both a cheaper and happier way to get around compared to the subway, especially on those sweltering summer days. Thanks for the post, Walter, and I hope you talk up the bike with any interested commuters. They might find they enjoy it as much as you do!
