I work for a organization that up-fits police vehicles and we always ensure the cars can run for long periods of time because officers, their mobile equipment and their k-9 counterparts can not be too hot or cold in the line of duty. Great article, thank you for sharing.

We have more than enough info on street sweeping in an effort to prevent negative consequences of urban storm water runoff. However, even though street sweeping is confirmed beneficial in the narrow sense that it has been studied, I have yet to see any study about the broader consequences of added pollution: cars idling while waiting for the street sweeper to pass by, and cars adding air pollution while circling around street by street of all the cars displaced waiting to find another spot in our overcrowded neighborhood during street sweeping days. I wouldn’t want to decrease urban runoff pollution at the expense of air pollution in my area which has, by EPA standards, unacceptable levels of air pollution for many years running. Yeah, don’t idle, and decrease urban runoff without adding air pollution.
