When I moved to DC for my internship I had to purchase a lot of new items for my apartment. I had to make the decision to not buy bottled water, but instead drink filtered water from a Brita filter. I also bought an aluminum canteen to carry beverages to work in. Some things that are still difficult to remember is reducing waste. I notice that our apartment uses a lot of paper towels for cleaning spills and household chores. We all know we should use dish towels more often and refrain from purchasing paper towels, but it is difficult to remember. We do have two recycling bins in our apartment for co-mingle and paper. Also the bins are right next to the trash can, sometimes out of habit I find myself throwing a recyclable into the trashcan without thought. I never recycled growing up so I have to actively remember to recycle items in the appropriate bin. Having a green lifestyle is a process, but each day it gets a bit easier to make “greener” choices.
