The city I live in is doing things as well. We have distributed reusable shopping bags to all the city employees that are being used and are cutting down on the number of plastic toss away bags being used; we have launched a reusable bag program for all of our citizens; we are promoting recycling and water reuse programs where there were none before; we have set up e-waste collection, medical waste collection, food scap and green waste collection, and collection of batteries and residential toxic waste like used pesticide and fertalizer containers, and we have just started a program to collect and safely dispose of old or no longer needed medications; we have taken steps at our several city facilities that have greatly reduced stormwater runoff from city facilities to the storm drain system. Mission Viejo is at the forefront of community environmental action and much of what we have and are doing is being done at small cost to the city general fund. Best wishes, Michael E. Bailey.
