We drove 1200 miles over Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, it's still cheaper than public transit and on our budget it's all we could afford. In a nod towards environmentalism, I used a reusable coffee mug and carried home everything that could be recycled. On the plus side we've been a one car couple since February of last year - that's definitely lowered our carbon emissions.

I agree with Al...but not sure if any "laws" would be as effective as having one or all religious leaders re-think their messages regarding the issues that surround this.

As a woman, I decided at a very early age (18) that I would not have any kids simply due to the environmental effects of having one...and b/c I felt (and still feel, some 18 years later) that any kid I brought into this world would be less than thankful for my selfish reason for doing so. I could imagine the kid saying "didn't you know how bad things were? But yet you thought it was the "natural" thing to do?"

I have not lost my hope for humanity...but I'm not willing to invest anything else into our earth's future other than my time and energy.
